Cochlear Implants

Cochlear Implants

To wear cochlear implants, you must first undergo a surgical operation. Instead of amplifying the sound, the cochlear implant turns it into an electric signal and sends it directly into your brain. Often, the younger you start using it, the better your language and communication skills will be.

How Cochlear ImpIants Work

Firstly, the cochlear implant will collect sound waves travelling into the microphone. Then, the processor will convert the sound waves into electrical signals and send it through the coil, into the magnet. After that, it travels through the electrode, going into the cochlea. The process skips the outer and middle ear. Finally, the cochlea registers the electric signals, sends a reaction through auditory nerve into your brain, which interprets it as sound.
